UNITED METHODIST TAKE LEAD IN NW INDIANA FLOOD RECOVERY
United Methodists in cooperation with United Way in the Northwest Indiana Lake and Porter Counties have opened two Volunteer Relief Centers in Munster and Portage, Ind. The Rev. Steven Conger of Ridge UMC in Munster is spearheading United Methodist efforts and is working hand-in-hand with the United Way and other area churches in Munster and Portage. Volunteers are needed to assist residents in flood clean-up efforts. Tools are needed by tomorrow, Tuesday, at the Ridge UMC in Munster. Also flood buckets are needed and can be delivered to one of the two United Way Reception Centers in Portage and Munster.
Indiana Bishop Mike Coyner requested a $10,000 emergency grant this morning from the United Methodist Committee on Relief. This is the third request and third incident of flooding in Indiana this year. North Indiana Conference Treasurer Brent Williams is opening an account for NW Indiana Flood relief for the Calumet District. Remember, 100 percent of all gifts designated for flood relief will go to flood relief.
