A Call to Promote Justice for Palestinians

The Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church urges Michigan United Methodists to heed the urgent call from Christians in the Holy Land.  It is a call “to engage in a process of study, reflection and confession concerning the historic and systemic deprivation of the rights of the Palestinian people, and the use of the Bible by many to justify and support this oppression.

JUSTICE FOR PALESTINIANS

Together with the inner guidance of the Holy Spirit, we pray, and choose actions. The  MI Conference BOJ Task Force promoting resources the Local Churches will access and have available as they implement decisive actions for Palestinian justice.

Below are resolution’s items for local church action.   

(1) Take the resolution back to your home congregation

(2) Engage your congregation in study and discussion of Cry for Hope: A Call to Decisive Action, and learn more about the Palestinian struggle with resources from the General Board of Church and Society and the United Methodist Kairos Response

(3)Contact your United States Congressional representative and ask them to support passage of Defending the Human Rights of Palestinian Children and Families Living Under Israeli Military Occupation Act (H.R. 3103) introduced by Congresswoman Betty McCollum.

(4) Find a member in your congregation to be a contact person with the conference Task Force Promoting Justice in the Middle East.

(5) Ask each contact person to inspire members to advocate for the human rights of the Palestinians, especially the children.
