September 21-22, 2018

The time is drawing near for the NCJ Gathering of Delegates and First Alternates to the 2019 Special General Conference on September 21-22.  With this in mind it is time to register for attending the event.  If you would like to register for the event please contact Paul White at

It is important you register as Wespath is a secure office facility and therefore the registration list is the one Wespath Security Desk will use to admit persons to the building and gathering.

The NCJ College of Bishops and Mission Council feel this is an important gathering where information will be shared and dialogue will take place to help delegates prepare for your work in February.  The goals of the gathering are: 1) Delegates will hear correct, explanatory information about the components and intent of the Council of Bishops proposal and the Way Forward Commission plans to the Special Session; 2) evaluate the impact and possible outcomes on our local churches, our conferences, and through dialogue with others to learn the impact upon the varied contexts of the connection; and 3) build trust with each other across delegations to strengthen the NCJ connection.  The tentative agenda for the gathering is:

Friday, September 21, Beginning at 12:00 Noon:

  •   Lunch
  • Welcome, Introduction to Conversation Guidelines, etc.
  • Worship
  • Presentation of COB Report & Way Forward Report
  • Cross-Delegation Group Conversation
  • Dinner
  • Delegation Gatherings

     Saturday, September 22, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noon:

  • Cross-Delegation Group Conversation
  • Large Group Conversation
  • Presentation by Conference Communicators
  • Closing Worship

We would like to remind you the NCJ Mission Council has agreed to reimburse travel expenses for participants, up to $400 a person.  Each person should make their own travel arrangements.  The NCJ reimburses drivers at 14 cents per mile, with an additional reimbursement amount for multiple passengers in the same car. We will not be reimbursing meals while traveling.  The Mission Council will provide lunch and dinner on Friday.  Participants will be on their own for Saturday breakfast and lunch.   Participants should make their own arrangements for accommodations Friday night at their own costs.  In many cases annual conferences will make funds available to support the participation of their delegates.  We encourage you to talk with your conference about this.  The Northbrook Hilton (1-847-480-7500) is a 10 minute drive from Wespath and has rooms available for $123 per night single and $133 per night double when you request the “Wespath rate”.

We look forward to seeing you in September and strengthening our connection through the dialogue that will take place.  In the meantime should you have any questions you may direct them to Paul White at

Grace and Peace,

The NCJ College of Bishops and Mission Council
